A MAN has been charged after he was filmed allegedly driving dangerously at Brighton-Le-Sands.

Just before 4.30pm on Sunday, police received reports that a vehicle was driving dangerously and performing burnouts along Bay Street.

It’s alleged the Nissan 200SX continued to drift and perform a burnout for about 200 metres, narrowly avoiding multiple collisions with other vehicles.

Officers from St George Local Area Command attended and spoke to witnesses before viewing mobile phone footage of the incident.

If you want to do a burnout/skid on an empty road then by all means go ahead, heck I'll come out and cheer you on. But doing that in the middle of a busy road with people around is the height of irresponsibility, you can see the traffic stopping for him (one car even backs up) and there was no doubt a lot of pedestrians around. This is one of those rare occasions where the driver has truly deserved his conviction for doing burnout.

Back in the early eighties we used to look with scorn at anyone doing burnouts in the town...they brought the heat down on all of us and made it harder for everyone. Drag races and burnouts? Sure...heaps of them. Outside town...maybe half-hearted drag races between traffic lights in the street but it was more a case of "who can beat who off the line?" than a full length drag race.

Nowadays it seems to be a badge of honor to drag race, do burnouts, and try to drift in crowded suburban streets.

Thanks for making it harder for the rest of us, moron...

Have been visiting that stretch of road for the past 20 years.. nothing has changed.

They put up boom gates / fences and other traffic control measures to stop people just driving around the block several times.

As for this twit... wanted his 15 minutes of fame and got it I guess...

Got to be able to sell papers, and make the news "interesting" , just for a change from the normal doom and gloom. ......

Exactly. If it weren't for idiots hooning in crowded built up areas, there wouldn't be any knee jerk "anti-hoon" laws and the cops wouldn't feel the need to make an example of every single "hoon" they manage to catch.

The true definition of a hoon and a knob. Problem is us boys who may chirp into second gear with a bit of throttle will get the same penalty!

I like to flog my FGX, and am not a saint judging by the loss of points on my licence lately..... But there is a time and a place for everything.

This was the wrong place, wrong time, and wrong "skillset".

Car went onto opposite lane, slid round in opposite lane with pedestrians on footpath, car had to reverse on public road to avoid knob.

Hell- I am not a saint, but when I really unleash it is in an area without pedestrians and no other traffic. If there is traffic- hell- at least keep to your allocated lane.....

Dicks like this make it that much harder for the rest of us who drive spirited, but do so in controlled fashion in well maintained machinery while applying full driving attention to what they are doing.

What's a "drive while visiting NSW permit"? Is this some wonderful new law that can keep those terrible Victorian and Queensland drivers out?

Jolly good I say!

Easy, obviously this deadwood had already had his nsw driving privileges removed yet continued to drive.
Nsw police can't suspend or cancel an interstate license.

Nsw magistrates however can

In his mind a skid of decent size is the kind made by a crash landing boeing

Agree and there was no way we would have posted the evidence on social media if it existed either. Burnout wheels were also removed before heading back into town as well, the less heat the better and thats how we got away with it. The police knew the score but as long as everyone played to the "rules" no problem.

Did the car get impounded & will the driver go to jail for a little time out? Or is that legislation in other states only?
