"Yesterday afternoon Norseman Police had a call from a member of the public who had just seen a vehicle pass them at speed.
Officers headed towards where they was believed it was travelling and intercepted a white Hyundai Accent on the Eyre Highway. It is alleged that they detected the vehicle travelling at 191km/h in a 110km/h zone. The driver, a 23 year old Belgium national, was charged with Reckless Driving and the vehicle was impounded for 28 days." https://www.facebook.com/WA.Police/p..._t=photo_reply

Being from Europe, wonder if he saw one of the old end of speed limit signs and thought it was an open limit.
Figures someone dobbed him in to the cops, seems to be the new national past time in Australia. |

Yeah the Corollas in Qatar would hit 200. No doubt an Accent would get close. Bet it's a rental, going to be an expensive impound!

Downhill with a good tailwind
Also on that note. How do you aussies not have autobahns? I've driven there and you're highways are straight lines. I mean the 110km/h limit on the Hume Highway isn't really necessary. That road could easily be an autobahn.

Impounded for 28 days.
As soon as I got it back I’d be out there doing it again just to take advantage of that service. |

If an Aurion can do 0-100 under 6 seconds surely an Accent can easily do 200

There's a youtube vid of an Accent just managing to hit 120mph(192kmh). Sounds like he was maxing the thing out. Unlucky to be caught at that exact moment.

Maybe so but they're still throwaway pussbuckets mate, an old Escort XL would still probably smash it in a straight line imo! Well maybe not but it would last longer...
cheer's, Maka

Cant be true...anything over 110 results in multiple road deaths/the sky falling and a 1000 newborns sent to the fiery pit to be forever the devils play things. No doubt there was lots of back/bum slapping/tugging playfully on moustaches n hugs between those charged with road safety once the potential mass murderer was stopped.

Ours was a 5spd manual which may have helped, my wife rallied a 2lt escort mk 2 in a historic series alongside hyundais(97 era) they're not a bad rallycar, the later model escorts are rockets in the dirt.

It's possible. Factory specs for the 2nd generation 1.6L, 16-valve DOHC were 78kW and 145Nm, for a 0–100km/h of 10.9 seconds, and a top speed of 189km/h.
Add in a tailwind and a downhill grade and you have 191km/h. Maybe. |

Wonder how quickly the police would have responded to someone calling them about a break-in?

My wife's got the current Elantra which is the next model up and if you drive it like it's stolen it is a rocketship.
Not that I would ever drive her car like that... Accent 200kph https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HbhY1jQfTrY
