Default RIP Sergio Marchionne

Quote:
Sergio Marchionne, the former Chairman and CEO of Ferrari, has passed away aged 66.
The sad news comes just days after the Maranello-based company announced “with deep sadness” that Marchionne was unable to return to work, with John Elkann named as Chairman in his stead, and Louis C. Camilleri CEO.

Under Marchionne’s stewardship, Ferrari have once more risen to the top echelon of the Championship, having won four of the 11 races to date in 2018, and challenging for both the Drivers' and Constructors' titles.

Chase Carey, Chairman and CEO of Formula 1, described Marchionne as “both a leader and a friend.”

“We are deeply saddened by the passing of Sergio Marchionne,” he added. “He was a great leader of not just Formula 1 and the automobile world, but the business world overall.

“He led with great passion, energy and insight, and inspired all around him. His contributions to Formula 1 are immeasurable. He was also a true friend to all of us and he will be deeply missed. At this difficult time we extend our deepest sympathies to his family, friends and colleagues.”

Surgery can cause massive stress on the body, could have been any number of things.

On Autosport there was mention of an embolism leading to a coma. Such a shame, he goes into hospital for what seems like a straightforward operation and doesn’t come out.

Condolences to the family.

very sad. hopefully Ferrari can get all their ducks in a row this weekend and dedicate a win to him. Without knowing all the details, it appears very tragic that he went in for shoulder surgery and never came out.

From wikipedia:
Marchionne had for several years suffered shoulder pain and was subsequently diagnosed with an invasive shoulder sarcoma, the severity of which he concealed from his colleagues while he underwent treatment. The shoulder surgery was part of this treatment, a high-risk operation.[41][42]

During the operation Marchionne lapsed into a coma, suffering severe brain damage with little chance of recovery.[43] He died on July 25, 2018, at age 66.

Hello,
Any surgery is dangerous, I have had a lot of spinal surgery and they tell you what the outcome may be,including not just paralysis but death!

My neurosurgeon at RPH Sydney told me that the closest thing to death is being anaesthetised, even for minor surgery.
But this man had cancer, his immune system would of been in a shocking state, the operation would of been a life or death situation, sadly he didn't make it.

I have a friend who was allergic to anaesthetic and didn't know, it was local anaesthetic too?..yep he had an injection to remove a deep finger splinter, luckily at the ED, he had cardiac arrest!
Geez what a shock I got, he didn't drive, never had but I took him to get this steel splinter removed, too deep for me.
Lucky bugger eh!

Cheers Billy.

As long as Vettel doesn't duck up again.
