Default is this a 9 inch ? from a 1973 Ford Fairlane 500 ZF Auto

Most likely. Definitely not a BW diff. A photo of the pinion end would offer certainty.

In a 73 model yep its a 9" unless someone has put an old 8 3/4 in but that would be way too narrow in the track.

That shape housing is yes up to around 76 when housing shape changed
