Had no idea where to put this so just move it if it's in the wrong spot. I need to find out how much i should be charging per km for business i do in my car (4.0 i6)... My boss has asked me to find out what the "award" rate is and i'm not sure where to look.... Any help would be appreciated : Cheers

My mate used to be a rep in his own car (same motor as yours) and from memory it was 50c per/km, it covered fuel and wear and tear.

Tell your boss to stop being lazy and get him to ring the ATO. Or his accountant. Otherwise you could do the same, ring the ATO, or bug MightyEFghia, he might be able to find out. Haha dobbed in Chris!!
Dan.

When doing a tax return the ATO allows you to claim .62c per km for an engine size 2.2lt or larger for 5000km. In your case I would charge the same, due to the fact insurance will cost more, you will have alot more mileage on the car which will lower your resale value and you have to ask yourself who is going to cut the loss on resale due to hi-mileage, not only does your mechanical parts ware out faster but so does the interior(drivers seat and door, steering wheel and so on).
In short your will get Hi-mileage and will ware out sooner. So if he want's you to use your car for his business, Then you must profit for it. Otherwise ask him to supply a company car. |

I assume you mean for tax?
Tax is as above for the 2003/04 year, small car up to 1.6L is 51c a km, Medium car up to 2.6L is 61c and large car over 2.6L is 62c. Interestingly, rotaries are classified in the same way. Havent got the new rates in front of me If your work is going to re-imburse your expenses, my work (acctg firm) is 53c/km for the first 150km then 36c per km afterwards across the board, though I'm not under an award. Nice, I didn't even have to do anything, thanks for dobbing me in though Dan ;) lol.
ATO doesn't care about cylinders only capacity... so if you are over 2.6lt then its all the same rate...

I'd charge him $1.00 per klm and then see if he bothers to find out the right rate!
