Sorry to hear this(read) right on xmas after loyal service...what reason/s did they give..did you get a package?

Has this got anything to do with the new IR rules?

What can I say except to agree that its happened for a reason and its now upto you to make the best of it...take the xmas break sort yourself out and in the new year GO FOR IT.

the worst part is the company i worked for
used to be my dads company.(40 years)
he sold it 12 months ago so he could retire.
since then my two brothers left to start their own company
and i stayed around thinking they wont get rid of
me. but i was wrong.
now im f#cked because i wont find another job as im 35 and unskilled(so they say)
my job was to keep all the trucks utes and vans roadworthy(as well as the gear) BUT because im not a tradesman the best i can hope for is a job in a wreacking yard.

well all good things come to an end and i will get by somehow

let this be a lesson to all you young blokes out there. GET A TRADE NO MATTER what your boss says (and my boss was my Dad)

I'm almost 20 and the only real job experience ive ever had was pushing trolleys so ive been on the work hunt (so to speak) for a long time now.

I think next year im going to get into the storeman trade (Get my forklift ticket).

But yeah hope everything works out well for you and your family being so close to christmas.

Zedjay at 35 your only just starting, and you do not know your strength's until your tested.

Enjoy a few beers but don't wallow in them instead look at the stars they are bright and waiting to be explored in the same way as your future.

People win or loose based on how they think so start thinking like a winner and you will be OK.

i have a morgage three great kids 10,4 and 9mths.
plus my lovely wife to suport.(who puts up with me)

i think im going to uprade my licence to HR or HC and get a job
driving coal trucks

yeah i should be OK i think im just still in shock.
my 4 year old daughter said to me "dont worrie daddy you can just get a new job" and i thaought to myself. YEAH

but seriously ill be ok ive still my helth and my family
plus we have a good Xmass holiday planed (already paid for thank god)

Zedjay; I know right now you are so down its not funny...but please when your able could you answer my questions.

As for upgrading your quals do it!...there is only one way for you now and that is up, it will take time and effort...but do it you wont lose.

sorry to hear Zedjay. i have been made redundant and it isnt the nicest experience. i was fortunate to get a payout which helped a whole lot. you never know what other jobs are around. as other posters have said, look at it as a new beginning. it can be tough, but dont become a couch potato. start looking for work as soon as you can. try contacts you might have around the place. good luck.

sorry to hear about your job .

i to have been made redundant , had a wife and kid to support and a mortgage aswell. my payout was not even worth getting (about $200)
i bought a V8 XA and wrecked it in my backyard , then bought another .15 years the rest is history. we are now one of oz's premier ford wreckers .
my point is to chase your goals with a bit of hard work you can make things happen.

I was with a company for near 19 years. worked my way from the floor to management. I was made redundant and couldn't believe it . I loved my job and didn't think i would cope.That was in 2003.

Now i work nighshift, earn just under $33k more. Work 8 hrs instead of 13hrs a day. See more of my wife and kids. Don't get stressed anymore. Reovated the house, got an XR6 and it goes on.

It will get better, you will be much better off.

Agreed with all the comments above, I've been made redundant 3 times now, it's not a good experience, especially after 12 years the first time in my case, but each time a better opportunity has opened up for me. The main thing to do is to start looking for that opportunity as soon as possible and you might even find that you are in front financially.

If its any help zedjay, im 39 hitin 40yo and have changed direction 3 times the last 7 years ago, Had a big redundency if you call it that in the last butcher shop i had, went broke, lost just about everything. wife kids, bugger what am i gonna do,took a laborours job at tubemakers to get by, far cry from ownin a butcher shop i tell ya, but good money, once we bought the house and got settled i decided to change direction again, moved to the country and started selling to the hospitality and catering industry as it was a niche market not identified to larger companys

Now im a big fat budda enjoying every day of work.

You'll make it happen mate, your skills at work over 18 years may shine a light on a new direction with skills accumulated, I wanna see your thread in 12 months time telling the forums of your wealth and new direction.
