full tank or empty tank

im leaving on a holiday for 2.5 weeks, and im wondering if theres any difference to leaving the car with a full tank of fuel or empty.

any ideas?

Two old lines of thinking:-
1)if you leave your car with a full tank, it reduces the risk of condensation
contaminating your fuel.
2)If you leave your car for a while with anything less than a full tank, you greatly
increase the chance of evaporation, and losing dollars into thin air.

The above could be true, or absolute bollocks. I tend to think there is an element of truth to both.

I've left my car for 2 months while overseas with no problems whatsoever. So I would say 2.5 weeks is nothing.

Yep, I would say that there is nothing to worry about. If anything, maybe disconnect your battery, but hey, you probably don't even need to do that.

I've left cars for 2-3 months with fuel in them, not a problem.

Disconnecting the battery is a good idea but for 2.5 weeks shouldnt matter at all.

If you were going for two and a half years i would worry about it
two and a half weeks no problems

Our old Econovan stayed parked for almost two years with 1/4 tank of petrol. When we fired it up again, it was fine... the only thing that went wrong is the battery went dead... $60 new battery later it was working as if nothing changed.

fuel that is left stagnent for a long period of time will go stale, 2.5 weeks is nothing to worry about... only over LONG periods of time, is where you should disconnect the battery, and jack it up off the ground to stop the tyres cracking and forming flat spots...

Go and enjoy your holiday, and forget about the car...

I had the LTD at Ford Discovery Centre for 6 weeks and left the needle under red. Being inside lessened the risk of condensation. Also I drove straight to a servo an filled it with fresh fuel. Fuel can go off!

dont worry about a thing,,,,

i went overseas for 5 months and all i did was lock my car up and disconnected the coil, put it in the garage.....when i came back poured abit of fuel in the carby and she fired straight up......been driving it for 4 months since no problems at all.......

i disconnected the coil for security reasons...heheheheh

try and take it now..........anyone trying to start it would have no idea......lol

For sure, 2 weeks is nothing.
In addition to raising the car and disconnecting the battery, I'd recommend `release handbrake' to add to the list too.

:ticking: leave it near empty - if someone steals it whilst youre away they wont get as far! that way you wont have to push the burnt out wreck very far to get it home

My old man owns a 66' mustang and he leaves it full all the time and it gets driven very little, maybe once every 2-3 weeks. Some times he starts it and lets it idle for a bit but he has never had a problem and it still perfect. 2.5 weeks one time will be no worries.
