Default i love bargains

a few weeks back a bloke i sort of know told me he had a 5 speed EA for sale for $300 he said all it needs is a battery and petrol and i can't resist a bargain so i got his number and the next day went and bought it for $250 but i couldn't get it started so i had to tow it home and all that was wrong was the moron had got the timing wrong and thought the car was stuffed. i timed it and it runs sweet, it has no rust and after a bit of hard work the interior is like new, the paint is reasonable and the gearbox is sweet all for $250

Great buy. Most people spend 250 just thinking about a car.

we found why the timing was out it was because the harmonic blancer had slipped on the rubber, luckily we had another one on another motor swapped it over and all probs solved

Gotta love Fords - dirt cheap to buy and play with plus part are interchangeble like an old datsun.

Makes me wonder what sort of track day weapon you could make for yourself with $5000....wouldn't be much you couldn't pick up 2nd hand.

There is nothing wrong at all with an EA engine, just most of them would have alot k's on them these days, otherwise they are as good as the next motor.

Great bargain, got to love simple cheap fixes.

Well done, you do find em now and then. i once bought a XC wagon with 302 in it for 500 bucks. Owner thought the motor was cactus. New extractor gaskets fixed that and it ran for 3 years before a trade.

Hmmm, I've always got my eye out for a deal. Here's a few...

XW for the best price, free
XR-XY Roll cage $80 from footscray swap meet
Brand new Price Engineering drop tank $150
XB Fairmont with original 302C $700
XB GT Sedan $3000
XD reco warm 351 C4 XD ESP rear end and heaps of other great parts, $2200
XT ute RWC and rego no rust really $1200
Set of V5 Simmons, free
XR falcon with 302C, C4, twin system - $200
Bug catcher $80 from Warragul swap meet
Hornet scoop $20 from the same Warragul swap meet
Near mint condition XR front guards $40 - Cranbourne Dog Centre swap meet

That's all I can think of just now. I used to pay the $20 or whatever to get into the swap meet early just so I could walk around and get the real good deals as they're still setting up.

CFI engine is the exact same engine as a multipoint engine, just with a different manifold and dizzy on it..
it just doesnt have the flow to get decent power from.....
for the small cost of the MPI parts, just convert it....

i don't want to convert it because that stuff never works for me something will always go wrong, i just want to know if a cam, exhaust, extractors, pod filter, and the usual stuff like that works well on a CFI

can you turbo or supercharge them, i remember reading in a fast fords mag, that jim mock had a EB GL CFI and it was supercharged, before he turned it into the worlds fastest N/A falcon six

ok, so you're worried about doing an MPI conversion.(one of the easiest mods to do......)....but feel that turbo-ing is the way to go.....

fair enough then....

iv'e got an MPFI auto EBII as my main good car but i just want to do the CFI 5 speed up so it can drag off a few commos and other falcons, it would be such an insult for them

I read this as "I don't want to convert it [to mpfi] because ... something will always go wrong ... ... ... I want to change the cam, exhaust, extractors..."
