Default telemarketing

i heard on the news that as of next year you can choose to be put on a list so you wont be bothered by telemarketers. i get heaps of these f-ers
a week calling up and its giving me the s***s.

i was wondering if there is anyone out there that wont be registering.

I went ahead and got a silent number about 18 months ago, and it didnt cost much(~$3.00/month), and havent had to worry about telemarketers ever since. Its the only 100% method of not getting unwanted calls.

Damn I got one on my mobile phone just last night and I dont give that number as a contact to anyone that would have a list to sell to these tele marketers. It was a survey on my banking habits, told them to go to hell

there is a program out for companys like that, i cant remember what its called, i have a copy of last years one, but this program has all phone numbers and addresses and names for Australia, and if a company wants to canvas the area, all they have to do is type in the suburb, or street name, the name of the person ect, and it will give them all names and numbers, even mobi's, of people in that area, with a public number.

Really, Private number is the most effective way to slow/stop them.

It's only 100% so long as you never put in on an application for anything... A great many companies sell information and I silent number wont stop this... How do I know...??? I had a silent number and did some research when I started to get those phone calls just about every night... I started a just literally telling every one of them to get F'd and eventually the calls have stopped... Lucky if I get 1 or 2 a month now.

They normally call a heap of people at a time and the telemarketers are picking up the calls as they answered. There is often a delay between them answering your "Hello", so if I don't get a response straight away or a recorded message, I hang up.

Someone called my mobile from some kind of Travel Club bullsh*t, so I put the phone down and let him run through his WHOLE spiel, occasionally saying "Yeah, yep", until he got to the part about signing me up (15 minutes later), then I just said "No Thanks, I can't travel 'cause my butt is stuck to my chair" and hung up. That call would have cost them a small fortune, if EVERYONE did that, we wouldn't have telemarketing to mobile phones and if nobody brought anything from Telemarketers, they wouldn't exist at all.

I won't buy anything from a phonecall on principal.

Tell them you're busy at the moment, ask for a contact number that you can call back when convienient. Most times they are reluctant to do so.

I did something similar. i pretended to get really excited by the free mobile phone he was offering me, and just as he started his spiel, i told the guy to hold as i had something on teh stove. i checked every five minutes and the idiot was still waiting. after 15 minutes, i felt sorry for him and hung up. i dont get many calls from these people any more. pity really, as you can have some real fun with them.

I work in a INBOUND (people call me) call centre, and I know a few cold calling colleagues and they have fun with the customer as well. Don’t think that by leaving the phone on the table is ИИИИing the telemarketer off. Hell you’re probably making his stats looks good, not to mention he is probably searching for porn while being paid to listen to nothing....

you have to feel sorry for telemarketers in a way i mean sure the ИИИИ us all off but they were the unfortunate ones who couldn't get a job elsewhere and are stuck putting up with abuse and so forth from people who are inconvenienced by them.
still doesn't stop me though i work nightshift so if they wake me up they cop it

You have to hand it to them though, they don't give up, usually i say no but after the third time this week getting a call from im in a hurry curry call centre and politley asking them to remove my private number from the list they call again, this time i decided to play.

CC. Helo were calling from hurry curry and we have flantatic horiday delz,

ME. no crap for 45 minutes asked them every question from what street to size of room , if they had a pool, you name and i had my half mixed up / dum *** voice at work, and you would have taken me for half stupid, any way phne operater gets me to speak to the slurpivisor after this 45 minutes to so call seal the deal, so while handing the phone over i hang up.

CC. why did you hang up ( yep rand back intantly )

ME. so i explained i did not hang up that they did, well by now hurry curry was mad, and then made me get a pen and paper ( and was quite forceful in telling me what to do ) but i kept my dum front on and proceeded to follow his intstructions, and we wrote down the full name , address and business number of hurry curry holidays, then he came back to wanting his $ so i asked why am i lucky to get this offerz, he then explained that they were ringing credit card holders in my suburb.

Bang ears go up but still acting dum asked him which credit card company gave out my number, he mentioned abc , but then quickly changed tact and said we were only guessing that i had a credit card.

Ok back to ( and now very forcefully ) getting me to write down the $ amount etc, im still acting dum and its time to go back to the superviser, well i hung up again.

CC. yep third time hurry curry is on the phone again and now he's not happy and starts telling me off, but i simply keep acting dumb, at this point we had a phone breakdown, ( the phone was in perfect order ) but i would leave random intervals and then say regardless if he was talking or not, " hello is any one there " , this tended to get him even more exited as he had to stop and start all over again.

Now he demands my name ( the part where they take your credit card details ) and i said to him im not sure if i want this and would pay when i went on my holiday.

This is where it gets frightening , hurry curry starts demanding that i have to take this now as it is a now or never thing ( im still acting dum ) then starts to now demand my name again, so i say where is the superviser, now he gets even more pleased and is now telling me what to do in a very strong voice and tone, give me your name ( we all know the formal collect details bit and i was not playing ) and once again asked for the superviser.

Superviser. herro we just need to get your , and thats as far as i let him go, and with that hit him ( now with a straight voice ) that his operater was in fact cohersing me and taking advantage of me and what he had just done was illegal, and that after the third time of asking to be removed from thier list , that it had better happen now as i had written down thier company details and had recorded the call.

Backpedal 100 miles an hour, we dont want you to tell anyone and we will take your number of the list and never ring you again.

I hung up. sure some of play with these guys but how many weak and vunerable people do the hurry curry teams stitch up a day, makes you wonder.

can you imagine working at calling people day after day after day, and just knowing that 99% of the people you speak to are going to be crude, rude or abusive ...... how utterly soul destroying that would be.

We've got a silent number but still get these calls all the time. You tell them you aren't interested but they just don't shut up. It's bloody annoying!
