Default Someone messes with you at work and you retaliate...

Hello,

I have a question about violence at work.
Say at your work (not office, maybe like warehouse or something) someone keeps giving you a bad time and you relatiate by taking them down, what would be the consequences? I know that
1. You probably will get the sack
2. You might be charge for assault

But what else could happen? You wouldn't be put in the slammer would ya?

The reason i asked this is because i saw on a show this arvo where this guy was working in a warehouse and a person in the same group kept harrasing him and teasing him and he then went up to the guy and said if he wanted to take it out side. Now i think he said to take it outside instead of just taking him down right there was because he didn't want to do it at work to get fired?

on a serious note, don't use any form of violence at work, it won't look good on your resume at all.

just forget about it and treat it as there problem . not yours . have a word on the side to them .tell them you are there to work not be insulted by them . and you dont need to be their friend. but wish there to be mutaul respect and no insults. tell them it is thier call. set it straight with this person . ask them if they are your enemy.99% of people back down at this point. if he says he is your enemy . then ask him to go and see the boss with you if they tell the boss. then the company is oblidged to issue a warning and document it on thier file .but regardless make it clear that you are not scared of this person and it is up to them if they want to take it further.
if you take this action you will be farquing with this persons mind. and anyone who sides with him. most will side with you if it gets serious.

also this one works too . make it clear to them that you dont mind if they talk behind your back . in front of everyone in the lunch room or something . then say because i'm talking about you. it nuetralises the situation .

Bingo, basically what i had to do when i worked at a butchers part time when i was 15, an older guy (In his 50's!) used to give me a pretty hard time, had a few serious words with him one day and it worked.

Bullying in the workplace is as real and as much a problem as it is in a school yard.

Simply put though if you retaliate you can be charged with assault and you can land jail time if you assault the person to a serious degree.
The best option is to report the behaviour to the Manager or Owner of the business. If you do not get any satisfaction there (or it is the boss) then you need to take your complaint to the appropriate authorities.

The Police can advise people what is the best option if you are unsure.

No-one has the right to bully anyone at any given time and violence can not and should not be tolerated or encouraged...

If you have a punch up at work, you can get the flick, get charged - both of these will make it hard to get another job and it stuffs up your life because of some dropkick. Its not worth it. First, have a word with the person and tell them to pull their head in, making it clear you don't appreciate their brand of humour towards you. For this to have any chance of working, don't be guilty of the same offence towards them. Now they know you are serious and if they keep it up, they know you'll take it further with the management. If they keep hassling you, report it and the person will cop the grief. If you throw punches, you get in as much trouble as them.

There are two things that seperate us from the apes:

1- We cook our food.
2- We don't resort to violence to solve our problems.

Let's me honest, resorting to violence is just losing control, it doesn't solve anything.

Interesting Scenario

Several years back at a call centre I worked at, there was a Snr Manager that kept hassling the girls, obvious sexual harassment, and because of his position, the girls where scared to loose their job and lodge a complaint.

I took this gentleman aside and asked him nicely to stop as it was causing stress to these girls, and not to mention the potential harm to the work place.

He did not seem to understand the quiet chat, so one afternoon in the storeroom he found himself on the floor with a 23 stone minge on him, after 5 minutes of quiet conversation I think he understood my position and the consequences if this occurred again.

Thankfully, he transferred out within months.

Some environment, 2 staff took their difference out on each other and the employers premises, busted glass, holes in wall where fists missed etc etc.

Both these guys received the 3rd degree by police, internal security and demoted.

Acts of violence will not be tolerated by an employer on the premises, you will loose your job and you will find charges will be forthcoming.

Looking back I could have ended up in the deep end, but it was a period of my life that I wasn't very proud of.

Follow the right channels, and report it, it is not worth loosing your Job over.

I havn't been sacked for verbal abuse...yet. I could repeat a conversation i had yesterday with a supervisor yesterday but i doubt you could make sense of all the NNNN & NNNN's
A leading hand of mine a few years back, he and i went 'toe to toe' down in the old basement, both ended up black eyes and bloody noses, but i'd have to say he's been me best mate since.
My father had a close call when he slapped a smartbum upside the head, u know the old "lift under the lughole" as i've been on the end of many of those myself. He was a very, very lucky, even luckier it didn't go to regional managment, was given 2 months suspension from work with no pay. he's been there for about 38 years.
Another 2 blokes were arguing and stirring each other up all day on the 2-way radios, after work they punched on up the car park, was funny as hell watching a 40 odd and a 50 odd year old fella going for it like a couple of seasoned heavy weights.

I DIDNT SEE THIS IT WAS SHORTLY before i started working where i currantly work . and the 2 blokes involved are both still working there . one most arrogant german small framed bloke i have evermet in my life ( looks similar to hitler) the other very short maltese happy go lucky crazy mad bloke who drives you nuts in 5 minutes.
anyhow these 2 had an argument at night and decided to go and sort it out in the car park . the workmates never even bothered to go out and watch as they thought it would be over and settled in a short time . after 10 minutes one of the work colleuges got curious as to why they hadnt returned and went out to the car park to inspect. he heard the small maltese guy screaming like a girl in a loud voice ouwwww ouwwwwww owwwwww. leeeet gooooo leeeeet goooooo leeeeet goooo oooooooowwwww. he ran to have alook and in a garden saw the german and the malt on the ground lying down . the german had the malt by the nuts and had a viscious snear on his face as in giving a vivid twist.
the spectator didnt know weather to laugh or cry. but they did settle thier differances . i so wish i witnessed that one .
