Just a shout out to those from waayy down south. I'm looking into something for a friend who is thinking about moving down there by the end of the year. Probably up the top half. I'm just after info on things to do, car clubs, motorsport activities, property etc etc
Any help would be great!

Well it will be north half. However it doesn't take long to get from one side of Tassie to the next.
Will find out tomorrow if it's a go'er for my "friend"

You cant get much more away from civilisation up in the north, particuarly in the west. (ok so its not that bad but it might seem like that for someone from say sydney.) But its a great place in its own right
I honestly couldnt tell you alot about Launceston. |

Depends how north you mean, there's Devonport where the boat docks, Burnie, which is a hole, or Launceston as the major population areas. Hobart has a lot of the car clubs. Launceston is overrun with rice and commos. Hobart to Launceston, takes about 2 to 2 and half hours, depending on traffic and your speed, Launceston to Devonport is about 1 hour, Devonport to Burnie is about 30 minutes.
What does your friend drive?

Yes Targa Tasmania counts as motorsport. Location as to where my friend is moving hasn;t been found yet. It's in the planning stage at the moment. Just the north side of Tassie is where the work will be be.
And my friend will be driving a company car, at this stage it looks to be a BA XT 6 Ute on gas

Ok, well there is a hiden truth behind this. The "Friend" is in fact me! I know there were people who saw thru it, i just used the "friend" thing until i knew it was going to happen.
And it is.....In september i will be moving to Northern Tasmania. I don;t know how long for. So in the next 4 months i will be getting ready, practising selling (part of the reason o'm going down), doing courses and possibly going down for a week or so to find somewhere to live.

Houses Down South , Hobart , Near the Water are $200+ but in the Country Areas 5 Acres and House Go Roughly for $130+ , But in one suburb , GageBrook , Its all Housing Commision Houses , One Guy bought a Whole Cauldersack of Houses for $7500 ! Yeah thats right , $7500 , Ulverstone , Devonport and Launceston are the Best Places to Live Up North ,Because of there Beaches in the Summer , only thing is , Devonport is VERY Cold in the Winter !
New Norfolk Speedway is Pretty good too , with the Sprint Cars , Demolition Derby and Stock Cars , Tassie is a Nice place to Explore , Living over there for 17 Years before i became a Victorian , Theres Lots to See and Do , But you need patients as it can get boring very quickly Most people say its in a Sought of Slight depression as there are not many jobs over there , but i know that Bob Clifford of InCat Catamarans is always Hiring , and there always wanting Wharfies in Devonport and Hobart !! Nice Place to Go , But i wouldnt move back there until i retire !! Cheers Daniel

If you're into actually doing something, like out side, then Tas is awsome.
Fishing, shooting, bush walking, rock climbing, mountain biking, etc etc all within 20 mins of Hobart and launy. We have the best driving roads in Australia. Sure, its not speed unlimited like NT, but most roads are not heavily inhibited by traffic and they're all very challenging. There are sections of pavement that I know of, that are truely thrilling, while driven within the posted (suggested) speed limits. In fact, there are a few sections of road I struggle to keep to the suggested limit ! The tracks are very accessible to novice, and serious punter, both circuit track, and dragway. Heaps of clubs, some more into proper motorsport than others, but it matters not. Turn up to the local circuits and anyone, from any club is welcome ! Well, thats for 'speed' events and 'all club days anyway. (And there's enough of these every other month, on Symonds and Baskerville, to keep everyone happy) If you're into doof - doof nut clubs, sipping skinny mini decafs on St Kilda Rd, or watching AFL every Friday night live, then you'll miss 'home' muchly. Life does move slower down south, but this aint bad. It's actually good ! And I don't sleep with one eye open at night waiting for some druggy ^%*$ to knock off my video. I love my offshore fishing, 4 x4 ing, hunten, walken and all the other stuff already mentioned. I'm really selfish, and want it all to myself ! But if you move to Hobart, and want cobber, I'm cheap and a few beers will bye some serious low down on the Antarctic Territory. (It's 4 deg outside atm)

I think Tassie is awesome. East Coast is the best place to holiday. Legana which is about 15 north of Launceston is a nice place. I've been about 10 times as my old man lives there, and i can say that you will probably get 2-3 years of enjoyment before you run out of things to do. If you ever get a chance visit Zeehan, Strahan and Queenstown they are real eye openers.
