We had a old VB, And one day off i went to the exhaust place and got a 2" sports with single muffler, On idle it sounded like a 253. And Webber's make them sound good also.

Probably exhaust mods are best.

lumpier cam, though that has its downsides
otherwise, good old exhaust mods and some extractors should do the trick

Lumpy cam and a good exhaust system. Mine's extremely lumpy and sounds awesome. No downsides either although mine is AU and I do have the edit to take of gremlins. But yeah, that's what I'd be looking at if you're looking for some nice sound.

Throw a V8 in it, they make the best sound you'll ever want to here.

Real note, comes from cam and head. Plain and simple.
Exhausts alone give a hollow note IMO. Still sounds like a stocko, but through a didgereedoo (sp?). |

Its not a racer, im not trying to get it to go fast, i just want it to sound half decent. Why would duals be bad? i want them mainly for the look.

Running dual pipe on any car is not something Id do. I have a 351 in an XC and its a single. But that personal preference really.
On what youve listed, stick to 2" pipe, maybe 2 1/4 tops. Personally I had a 2 1/4 with genie strackies on a 250 Cortina over 20yrs ago. Sounded good for a stocko, just the right amount of back pressure and breathing ability. Because yours is 170, Id stick to strackies, 2" pipe all the way and a resonator to suit. Or a muffler thats almost straight through, if you get those things that go straight through, its all noise and no note. If you ran a split pipe to get dual outlets, then each pipe would be 1" to get a similar effect. Id say that more note will come from one side, than the other. |
