Removing contaminants from paint

This afternoon I gave the Fairmont a once over with a clay bar and I have to say I have never used anything else that gets the bonded contaminants off the paint as well without containing solvents or abrasives.
The crap came off so easily!
Tomorrow after work It'll be getting polished then waxed.

Has anyone else been really surprised just how much pollution the clay bars remove?

Clay bar is great stuff. I have used it often on my XR6. I wonder if Yagz has tried it to get rid of Snail Trails (tm)....

Yeah I love my clay bar, my car lives outside all year so it comes in handy. Paint feels like glass.

I've seen your car in the flesh and you do very good work with the three stage meguiars retail line
Yeah you can't beat a clay bar
XR6mk 2 and I are the only members of autopia in south australia

I don't think much of the synthetic clay like meguiars quik clay and mirror glaze cleaner clay
My latest technology clay product is speed clay which is foam
Comes out like shaving cream and you use the supplied sponge (soak it in water first) and use quick detail spray with it
There is a liquid clay variant around but autopian's believe it's no better than regular clay

Clayed mine today in prep for all ford day
There was no fallout on it but still was a little rough partly due to all the smog/pollution in the air these days plus shite from car exhausts etc
Sulfuric acid rain is another one as well

My regularly used clay is the original formula blue and red ones from japan
Car care kit 3 which is the quick detailing one will have either a red or blue bar in it depending on the color of the customer's car
White cars should be clayed with the red bar

Saw your car today at AFD and its just as good as when I saw it last at that street machine night cruise down south mid last year
If I had a detail shop, I would hire you on the spot as my #1 technician
Do you use the two bucket wash method and what shampoo are you using?

Professor - really appreciate those kind words. All goes back to autopia
They taught me a heck of a lot
But it's the constant research of latest technologies and experimentation with my product inventory that really makes my knowledge expand
I test them out on used cars at work. Get out products designed for use on a certain surface(s) and try it on other surfaces
Just recently I began developing my own products and improving other brands formula's
For instance, the quick detail spray I got in last month
Found it to be hard to remove and would streak a little so I modified the formula and now it smells like creaming soda soft drink and works brilliant on paint and glass

SVR73, I'm not sure what the two bucket method you refer to is but I use a microfibre mitt and ArmorAll New Car Gel. One bucket for the top of the car, above the mouldings, emptied and refilled for the lower half and finally a seperate sponge for the wheels and tyres, with frequent rinsing of the car.

Two bucket method is when you fill one bucket with shampoo and the other with water
You wash a panel or two and then dunk the wash mitt in the water bucket and quickly clean it
Then re soak with shampoo
That method will keep shampoo clean and reduce chance of scratching, marring or swirls

I shampoo the wheels and tyres first with a different mitt
