Just trying to understand how other people drive the little fez..
Do you thrash the little beast? or do you drive carefully? please explain just how your thrash it or dont thrash it i.e Yes i thrash mine and 80% of the time i hit 6000rpm through every gear..(rarely get to 6000 in 5th thought ) i go through about 4 tanks of fuel per week and ive had no thrashing related problems so far (touch wood) 21,000kms on clock. WP Fez. Luke

I'm nowhere near that bad, I usually take it to 3 or 4 thousand revs driving as normal. I definitely don't thrash it.

Every now and then I'll hit 5500 when I'm feeling like it, generally I'll change at about 3500

Depends what mood I'm in if I'm gonna put anyone else in any danger.
I thrashed it out of the CBD on the way home today, couldn't have cared less if I knocked over some old fart with a comb-over & a crap briefcase... |

haha thrashing a car doesnt have to mean doing 210kmph, i can thrash my car to 80kmph and still be in second gear...
Remember please dont just put "yes i thrash my car" without anything else to the post.. because everyone has a different interpretation to thrashing.. explain how you beat your fez up Cheers people!! Luke

I usually only thrash the car when its time to go home from work. This includes reving to redline in 1st, 2nd: Holding 2nd gear around roundabouts then punch the shift down trigger to get the front spinning. And that about it. On occasions i tend to shift down when coming to a set of lights to get a nice grumble from the exhaust so at point in in the Fully Sick mode.
BTW its AUTO

Occasionally yes, but I dont have that much control over how much I can rev.

Because I have the WQ Zetec and hence the lower gearing I find it damn near impossible not to thrash it,.....takes absolutely nothing to zip it up to around 4000rpm between gears with just what I would call "normal driving", I usually find myself changing between 4000-4500rpm, occasionally give a bit extra and take it round to 5000-5500rpm....dont think I would do a "JD" though and take it up to redline "80% of the time".....that's gotta stuff it in the long term.

I drive it normally... I've only reached 6000rpm twice ever since i've got the car in late May '06. Other than that I just give it 2500-3000rpm... launching to the speed limit.
EDIT :- But JD2004, 4 tanks a week... how many kms do u drive a week, man? Quote:
-BAAAAK!!!!!!....tyre screeeeeeeetch-- I think one dude was trying to beat the lights (he must've been doing at least 80-90kph) and the other wanted to turn right to the street i was sitting on. ****ing idiots i'd say. I hope both parties learned some lessons this afternoon. |

I've been thrashing it for 2 years now, 1st past 6000 into 2nd then drive, then back down as well...LOL, I don't do that at alot these days.
And no problem at all for the 2.0L auto....LOL I don't do it as much anymore, only to overtake cars or at the lights.

Ok, Since Sept 2004 till March 2006, I thrashed my Fiesta Zetec WP.
I redlined it daily, and took the engine to 5,000rpm quite regularly. It loved to rev, and did it sooooo cleanly. I sometimes miss the sound the engine made. Although I did cane it all the time, I also changed the oil/filter every 7,500rpm with the top of the range synthetic oils. So, although I thrashed it, I also cared for it (Vacuum and wash weekly). Just a word of warning - Don't thrash the Fiesta through twisties, and then suddenly turn off the engine on the side of the road for 5 minutes to check out the view - the Water Pump is probably going to explode :P 29,000kms of ownership, the only thing to go wrong was the Water Pump. The engine sounded as good as ever...

I give mine stick, but not every day. My drive to work is pretty sedate, but then I am heading towards the CBD so there isn't exactly room to thrash it. I do enjoy the sound of the Fez under full throttle either exiting a corner or going up a hill though.

I agree with Robjh80, the WQ takes nothing to get up to 5000 revs, so it is pretty hard not to 'thrash it'. Although I dont think that driving it in this manner is thrashing it. If you are hitting rev limiter every gear change then maybe, but up to 5000 I think is ok. Basically, it loves to rev; as teki says, it is sooo smooth so why not?
I dont know, maybe I am naiive but thats how I feel. Furthermore, it is incredibly fun to drive it hard! I say enjoy it! |

I only go for a spirited drive on the Old Road , usally pusshing it bout 95% leave a small room for error , i find theres no point going over 5500rpm as theres no power, theres a nice little power ban betwwen 4-5500rpm , in stock form its good , can hold its own aganst higherpowerd cars on the road ,

i dont thrash myne to much probably about 35-48% of the time....mind you when i get out to my local streets....1-redline,2-redline,3-redline 4-skip,5cruze....doing about 130then lol.... but mainly when im at the start of a pack of traffic lights and want to get ahead.... or yesterday as FlaminFiesta saw i was driving in the city... lol maximum gear i reached was 3rd lol..... constantly dropping and raising gears darting in and out of traffic.....twas cool. i mainly love the accelration and the sound that it makes when i maxxx it out and change gears.....especially the *POP* from the exhaust..

Never, ever when it's cold ;) Rarely go past 5K. A good 90% of the time, I'm pretty gentle on her.
Generally, I use a lot of engine braking. Short street, get up to 5k or so, and let the engine slow it down before the intersection or whatever. Most of the time tho, I'd prefer to throw it thru a few corners/roundabouts, wag the tail a bit, than flog the engine. Also, still trying to beat 550kays for a tank, peddling hard tends to make her thirsty |
