Default King of all V8's

I was wondering which V8 (any brand) you all would consider to be the ultimate hair raising engine of all time.

I personally agree with both of you actually, the HEMI is one wild peice of gear and any top fuel car speaks for itself (real loud and fast!). I'm just interested to see what people think.

Ford/Cosworth DFV created for F1 in 1966 & was still used by F1 teams until 1991.

I voted 308, only because 253 isn't on the list.

What no Beemer/Merc/Audi engines?

Would rather have any of them over the typical US engines which fail to compare (except the GT engine - maybe)

I'm sorry I haven't included any european/F1/indy/diesel V8's. I'm only interested in the old school V8's that get most aussie revheads blood pumping for this poll. I'm not denying the europeans can make horsepower, they can for a heck of a lot of money!

426 Hemi for the win. Its record and reputation speak for themselves.

Only problem with them is the bloody width of those heads!!

No they are an 8,its just that they are restricted alot by those thongs in the exhaust, the ones that start slapping every time the accelerator is pressed..

My old mans got a Valient Charger EH i think? 426 Big block in it, you have never heard anything like it in your life. Stands up on 2 wheels off the mark. Pure muscle, beast redlines at like 3500rpm but TORQUE UNLIMITED

Any big block! 426 for sure,440 a close 2nd and 340 for a small block (Even Smokie Yunik (sp?) the Chev guru said Chrysler got it right) Unfortunatly for parts availability the 350 Chev wins.

Of course the FORD HEMI'S get my vote, the 427 SOHC, the ARDUN and the semi hemi Boss 429. But running very close to those is any FE wedge motor and if I had to go non Ford you can't go past the Chrysler Hemi.
