Default 1600 xflow + 9000rpm = bent valves

Well on the way home from the Rallye Sport Club meeting last night I drove the cortina home like a granny right up until the last corner from home and I decided to give it a bit.

Well after leaving first at 7000 I dropped second and hit the gas but as it turned out I hit the gate and the tacho (which only reads to 6000) spun right back round to about 500 which at a guess would be pushing 9...

Put it in gear and it was down to three cylinders... Boy did I feel like a tool.
Getting towed to ERR on Monday so Tony can fix it (again)...

If it had of been in the new fez the electronic rev limiter would have saved me from myself.

Moral of the story, if your gonna give it **** make sure its in gear...

The performance rebuild is still under warranty, but problably wont be honored due to the fault being my stupidity.

The valves are only $6.50 each and Tony says it'll only take an hour which = $65 and I'll need a new head gasket which is about $50, shouldn't be too bad as long as the valves haven't damaged the piston crowns or valve guides etc...

Oh plus towing which will be about $60...

Or I could quit being a tool and learn how to get it in gear properly... :

But, yeah I might have to look into doing that, it would also protect it from other things like stuck throttle's, high rev down changes etc...
