these scumbags seem to be everywhere these days,i got an email the other day from someone impersonating an electrical store asking if i was happy with my new $2800 tv,followed the next day with an email saying they were the credit card company ,wanting my details because there was a discrepancy in my phone number with my resent purchase-gets right up me this sort of thing.
but over here in new Zealand the jail sentences for fraud are laughable, suppose we just have to be really careful with personal information

I got a phone call a month back supposedly from Ebay customer service. They wanted to confirm my account details by me giving them my password and current address ( I had some things for sale that were worth a lot of money). I was immediatly suss as they obviosuly wanted my address so they could come and steal my goods from my garage. I argued with the guy for 10 minutes (Indian accent) to prove he was from ebay and when he couldnt I then abused him and told him I was going to trace him down ect ect ect - He wouldnt give up though right to the end...scumbags.

If it happens again, say your credit card number actually consists of letters and spell a nice little message for him.

Let Telstra know. They cant do anything about it if they dont know what's going on.

Or maybe they'll tell you it was legit? lol

If they're after details, ask for their name, then tell them you will call the call centre back. They usually hang up when you tell em this

These sort of companies will never ask for credit card details or passwords or anything similar unless you actually ring them with hardware/software faults (i.e telstra).

If anyone rings you and asks for personal details always ask for their call back number, name and job title. Hang up, ring the line you have for them (i.e telstra number on your bill) and ask to speak to a manager, figure out then if its legitimate.

Also something to look for is a fake ebay second chance offer

I got one that Offered me a second chance on a trike I had missed out on so I said OK then they sent me an email saying the item would be delivered for free (this is where I got Suss). So I played along then they sent me a page that looked like it was from ebay except it wanted me to use Western Union to send money, WELL!! I let them think for a second that they were getting the money then told them to ****** right off

The funny this is they will protest till the death that they are legit - even when you tell them you know they are scamming.

Next time you get an email from a scammer or something like this Play with them is is quite entertaining. DONT GIVE THEM ANY REAL INFO
