******* Fantastic.
Can anyone else see Gilchrist and Hayden as the openers for Australia come the World Cup? Now let's see the Poms get through the year winless.

I agree its very entertaining. But it just reminds me a bit to much of baseball.
I dont know, its going to make the normal ODI's seem long winded..LOL

Ghill-Church is a bloody crack-up!
Well worth staying up 'till nearly 1am. Start work in 7 hours! What a useless performance by England. Hopefully New Zeland will show how its done next week! Last edited by XR8putts; 09-01-2007 at 11:00 PM. |

20-20 cricket is probably the only thing that drags me away from the pc when at home.
(apart from the v8`s off course) |

I just heard center bet were paying $3.50 for 14 or more 6's in the match. Is there anything you can't bet on??

They need to fix some of the rules as well - i.e. out of the ten 20:20 games played in aus so far, the team batting first has won - too much of an advantage, they need to fix it.

Mrs Ringo sat down and started watching it with me instead as opposed to her normal procedure of:
1 - groaning 2 -walking off 3 - Finding something that I should be doing instead of watching sport In the space of 30 minutes or so she saw batsmen scoring runs, a few wickets (England where batting) and laughed at Gilchrist yabbering away with the commentators. She asked "Why don't they do this for all cricket"....indeed my darling indeed There is space for 20/20 cricket in Australia - its fun to watch |

Was a great match. I love the more traditional form of the game but there's nothing better than seeing every stroke under the sun being played... and a result... within a 3 hour period!
Great to see the new blokes in strong form, looks like "hilfy" will be one to watch in limited overs internationals.... tough to hit a ball that just keeps swinging away from you!! Gilly did a great job with the mic "england in all sorts of trouble again, 4 for 60". Was disappointed to hear the poms had knocked the commentary team back... but then, there's only one side in the world who could be such sourpusses at a fun match.

As a newbie to the game of cricket I found it great ..... except for when I walked away from the TV & there were more 6's & outs ......
I liken it to watching my wonderful OH play ......although his best is 144 this season so the Aussies had better step it up a notch to beat him :P |

We have a cricket nut here at work. 65 years old, and will not watch 20/20.
"20/20 does not deserve to be called cricket. It's not a game, it's a sideshow to test matches. Not one of the bowlers out of the test match was in the game" He kept going, but I walked off. Living a bit in the past I reckon. He still hasn't accepted one dayers! Its entertaining. The crowd was going off last night! People need to realise that some viewers couldn't be bothered watching a 5 day test match! Even my better half sat down and enjoyed the game. Cheers Darran

I wish they would scrap test matches and just have 20/20. Lol Gilly with the microphone on. Never seen that before so is that a new thing? |

221 runs is only a few less runs than England scored in nearly three sessions of test match cricket (when they managed to score that much). Are any of us surprised the poms couldn't keep up with the run rate?

one of the commentators had a good idea of having the match in quarters , 10 overs and then swap, would make the game heaps better

i am a big fan on the twenty20 concept, and yes i am also a big fan of both one day games and test matches, went to the VIC vs QLD twenty20 on sunday night. its understandable serious cricket tragics don't like this concept. it's just a game where you try to slog any ball that comes your way. there are no tactics involved whatsoever. this is why it is appealing to the younger generation as well as new comers to the sport. it is simply put on for the fans and for the batsmen to have a bit of fun. can't wait for the one dayer on friday AUS vs ENG. go the aussies

It's fairly easy to see why it's been well received.
Everyone like the action side of cricket. Who didn't wait thru the one day-ers for the chance to see Dean Jones slog the opposition into the stands?? Who doesn't talk about 'Gillies' quick hundred in Perth, among his other big one day efforts.?? What about Viv Richards in his hay day - what a spectacle. All this in a game that's over in the same time frame as an AFL match.. Marvellous that. |
