put the rear of the car on jacks so its slightly down hill.
slide under the car on drivers side
just beside cat towards the rear of the box half way up is a 12mm (i think) bolt.
undo the bolt. and trans oil should just start coming out, so if it does quickly do up bolt n ur all good.
if not add more fluid.

hope it helps

Autos dont have check plugs on the box if it even is an auto. Only manuals have check plugs. Autos have dipsticks

I can't believe the last two replies, firstly the car has to be jacked up level and secondly some transmissions do have plugs.

1.9 lt. might be the refill quantity when removing the pan but the total capacity is something like 8 or 9 lt.

1.9L?

I have been putting 3-4L in mine whenever I drop the pan... 1.9L is the T5 dry fill.

Hi Guys

I am a girl so go easy on me okay..

I purchased a bright yellow

ex taxi ford falcon sedan.

I think it is 1998 or 1996 model

It is AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION

Anyway in the last week or two

when I accelerate the transmission

does not change gears correctly

and kind of revs...

and when I turn the car off

it most times corrects itself

albeit temporaraily

ANYWAY since I have had the car 18 months,

I have never been able to find

the place to check the transmission fluid

so could you help me out firstly

and perhaps indicate what the problem may be

Please be nice guys

accurate1,
just to answer your post.
when a ford is lowered it tends to be *** heavy.
the jacking the rear slightly means that the car then becomes level.

mike1959,
you prob dont have a dip stick if its an EL.
if you read my post number 2 it should give u an idea on whats involved to check the fluid. otherwise a trans joint could check it for you

Whether the car has been lowered or not has nothing to do with it, the body must be level to accurately check any fluid levels.

More specifically, I'm pretty sure the EL was the *only* model not to have an auto dipstick, I'm pretty sure the AU's went back to having them.

Some say a transmission service at least yearly isn't a bad thing anyway... that would be my suggestion.
