I was at Phillip Island racetrack on Sunday for the Shannons historic race meeting. They had a genuine one racing, red with white stripes being driven in anger. It made a lovely noise and boy did it go...

I sat in the red one at the motor show, one of the perks of working at the Ford stand, simply awesome feeling. Except the gear stick was on the wrong side, but I could adapt.

And how did you know it was Genuine? when you consider they are worth in excess of $20mil plus. And if it has a racing history well name your own price. I know of two Genuine GT 40s and neither of them are red. One was the Green version that was Bib Stillwells and the other is a Gold one owned by a guy in Moorabbin.

The car was owned by Rob Sherrard and it was genuine or else it would not have been allowed to race. There was plenty of other exotic machinery worth a fortune there, including F1 cars and Lemans cars. Rob also had a Porsche 956 C at the meeting which was driven by ex F1 driver Vern Schuppan.

All cool, but I see my quote has been changed.

I was just pointing out that the car on the transporter was the new Ford GT (as per the side decals). It would be the car FPV had in their reception area for a while.

The original 60's version was known as the GT 40. I don't know what our friend ebfalcon13.5 saw, but I'm sure it was interesting.

In relation to the car I saw at Phillip Island, well apparently that was the real McCoy. Kevin Bartlett was talking to the driver and they were discussing the cars history. The car also had a signboard outlining the cars history, as did a lot of other cars there.

It was a great historic race meeting. There were many cars worth millions of dollars each (Porsche museum cars included) being given quite a bit of curry from the likes of Vern Schuppen etc. A great day.

He's talking about the 1960's GT 40 that were raced. The car you are talking about is the Ford GT which is based on the GT 40. He was saying that these days, the 60's GT 40s are worth 20 million.

The world-class sports car entry includes five championship-winning Porsches - an ex-Le Mans 962, the 956 that won the 1985 All-Japan Sports Car Championship, a brace of Porsche 935s and the 934 that won the Australian sports car Championship in 1977 and 1980.

Joining them will be a genuine Ford GT40, a Lola T70, a Lola T610, a Lola T286 Cosworth, a McLaren M1A and a Matich SR4.

Yeap even those DRB replicas are awesome, who cares if its not genuine, if you stacked it you would be suicidal...

On the topic, anyone got any idea how much say a chassis + body would be from DRB?

Lets just say you get a BOSS 290 and trans for ~$15k (the lot), a good enough paint job would be anything from $5k-10k, then other bits and peices could be ~$10k.

Just trying to suss out what the costs would be. Long term I want a Cobra rep, but a GT40 rep would be even better. Ive seen some Cobra rep's go for ~$40-50k.

Well roaring forties charge $ 54,900.00 USD + Taxes, so you'd be looking at around 70k+

That car comes fully built minus the engine and gearbox.

Forget the ford trans, they are mid mounted, I think a porsche G50 box is commonly used, they cost around 7-8k second hand, or you could spend way more than that on something better, like a hewland box.

You'd be lucky to see any change out of 100k.
Some people might find that expensive for a replica, but GT40 replicas are not your usual slapped together breed, they are not meant to be a budget alternative to an origional like a lot of ferrari and lambo replicas, but they are basically a custom built race car and are top quality.
(well I guess 150k is budget compared to 20mil)
