Looks alright. I'd dump another gig of ram in there though.

Yeah i had a bit of a look around and thats an OK price but could be a little cheaper me thinks..
I might offer him say 600-700 and see if he will take it. If not build something a little stronger for the same price. Btw no monitor.. just the tower.

Sounds like an OK price, get a dvd burner and a niceish case with it and youll be cooking with gas
If in doubt though, Check out msy (cheapest guys i know) for prices is using the best way and then work out how much it would cost you to build something similiar http://www.msy.com.au/Parts/msy.htm

Nah not worth it at all, if you forget the sound card and zalman cooler (cheap and not really needed anyway) you could build a brand new system for that price, including a dual core pentium CPU, and a 7600GT grahics card and a bigger hard drive, which would wipe the floor with that system.
Plus its brand new meaning full warranty on parts and in twelve months time it will be less out of date. I think your 'mate' is trying to offload his old machine onto you without losing to much money. If its such a great system that plays all the latest games and get such great benchmark scores then why is he selling it? He's not exactly ripping you off, but he's not selling it to you cheap either, I'm sure he knows you could get a better system for your money, but wants to help himself out a little more than he wants to help you. If i were selling it I'd probably put 700 on it, but I would feel right selling it to a mate for that much. |

Yeah I would offer something more around $600... for $1000 you can build a much better system from new, and adding an extra gig of RAM won't do squat as Windows XP won't use 2GB anyway, assuming you will be running XP. Better off using 2x512MB of identical DDR2 RAM so you can run them in dual-channel mode, much better benefit than 2Gig. :P I built my mate a new system yesterday for $1280...
- AMD Athlon XP 3800+ Dual core - Gigbyte mobo w/ onboard 5.1ch audio, gigabit lan, 2x PCI express for SLI - Nvidia 7600GS 256MB - 1GB DDR2 Dual-Channel RAM - 80GB HDD (only mildly sucky component) - Liteon 18x DVD Burner - LG 17'' 5ms LCD - ADSL2+ Router/Modem - Some generic keyboard/mouse I thought that was pretty awesome, he got a good rig thats ready to play games and access the net pretty cheap. |

Why buy a board that doesn't have native Sata ports ? He'd need to drop the price by $200 to make it worthwile.
