Default Issues in transferring rego from interstate?

Hey guys.

I have been shopping around and found a couple of vehicles im intersted in WA. I was just wondering if there is much hassle in transferring the rego to Victoria.

I have already rung vicroads, and was told that i have to book a time in to present the vehicle, and then if its numbers match then provide ID, Pay rego, plates and stamp duty and its done.

However, if i purchase the vehicle in WA, would i have to purchase with no rego as i am a VIC resident? Or is it possible to have a vehicle registered in another state with a Vic address?

Sorry for the long post, but i couldnt seem to get a good answer from Vic Roads
